Membership to the SIMD is open to individuals with a demonstrated professional commitment to research and treatment of inherited disorders of metabolism.  Affiliate memberships are available for both physician trainees and professionals in other areas with complementary activities or special interests in metabolic disorders.  Applicants, supported by at least two recommendations from the SIMD membership, should communicate directly with the Membership Chair of the SIMD.

The following membership fee categories (adjusted, 2008) are available: 
(Note: Membership includes annual subscription to Molecular Genetics and Metabolism, the official journal of the SIMD, except as indicated.)

• Regular Member excluding trainees - $170/yr

• Non-Doctoral Member - $95/yr

• Trainee - $95/yr (up to 3 years)

• Other Nation Member - $95/yr  --reduced dues available to those from places other than those nations and regions comprising the bulk of our membership

• Other Nation Associate/Trainee - $25/yr (up to 3 years) --further discount available for associates or trainees at centers in other nations, without subscription to the journal

Note: we have a new on-line system for applications and recommendations.
To apply for membership:

1. The Applicant should complete the new on-line Application Form
   1. Have on hand the text of your Curriculum Vitae to copy and paste into the Application Form.
   2. Be prepared to designate the names and addresses of at least two Recommenders/ Sponsoring References (members of the SIMD) who will be contacted by the Membership Chair.
2. Recommenders/ Sponsoring References should complete the new on-line Recommendation Form

Applicants will be notified when all application materials have been received, and when there are results of membership decisions (semi-annually).  Please do not send dues payments at the time of application.
