11-Apr-2013: Joint Statement re: Potential Risks of Carnitine Treatment or Its Discontinuation. In anticipation of concerns and possible confusion from media coverage of a recent article about possible atherogenic effects of trimethylamine oxide which could arise from carnitine administration, we post this statement in conjunction with other agencies. See SIMD Issues and Statements.

28-Mar-2012: We note with sadness the death of Syb Wadman, who passed away on March 20, 2013 at the age of 91 years, following a period of declining health. Professor Wadman was an active SIMD member from its earliest days. His position in the metabolic lab of the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital in Utrecht, The Netherlands, gave him the opportunity to develop multiple novel diagnostic techniques and he was the first to describe several new inborn errors such as the glutaric aciduria type 2, the molybdenum cofactor deficiency and the 3-methylglutaconic aciduria type1. We remember him with gratitude for his contributions and his role as a teacher for us all
